TRANSLATING MEMORIES

Nostalgia can be delicate and enveloping. It is capable of leading us toward the past. toward longed-for places, or toward people to whose side we yearn to return. Like a carousel, nostalgia has the ability to move us from one place to another. It does not move forward in a straight line, but rather rotates, drawing an affective landscape that is sometimes blurry and at other times defined, where time does not flow but thickens.
These work also reflect that time. Their scenes -birthday parties, walks and family gatherings- are suspended between what is one's own and what is shared. It does not matter wether it belongs to our biography or to that of others; the memory becomes soft through the drawing, and its expression velvety through the embroidery. Each perforation acts as a tactile flow that insists on what once was.
Through a silent language and an aesthetic that shows down a gaze, the artist constructs open images, narratives that the observer can complete. Thus, a personal poetics and a common imaginary congregate, where photography articulates the familiar, the biographical, and the temporal. The scenes, everyday, intimate, and, at the same time, universal, are partially veiled to be activated by whoever observes.
